Wuhan, China – Monday 8th October 2018: Jordan Dempsey has retained his China F4 Championship lead following a challenging weekend in Wuhan, where the young Mullingar teenager made his street circuit debut in the Capital of Central China’s Hubei province.

Coming into the weekend as the new series leader after another strong performance in Shanghai, Dempsey was hoping to build on that advantage. However, street circuits have a very different characteristic to normal conventional race circuits, so Jordan knew his weekend ahead was going to be a learning experience.

With many of his rivals around him familiar with the style of venue, Jordan used the early free practice sessions to find a suitable rhythm in his Pinnacle Motorsport F4. Typically however, he wasn’t long getting up to speed and was right amongst the front runners with only a couple of tenths separating them. Qualifying for the opening race of the weekend was one of the closest this season, with Dempsey just missing out on pole position by a mere five thousandths of a second to start P2.

Jordan’s race one would be short lived however. An early braking issue saw him drop down the order before a further incident while on a recovery drive left him in the wall and with some damage to repair ahead of race two along with an injured finger to contend with.

Starting the second race from the back of the grid, Dempsey had reset his focus and with a clear head, approached this race with his eye on the championship rather than just race results. His mature approach to the race was rewarded as he finished in P4 after 18 laps, securing some all-important championship points along the way.

The third and final race of the weekend would see the Mullingar teen start from row four of the grid and once again, prioritising championship points over race results. During the opening lap of the race, Jordan discovered that his race one braking issues had returned, but this time he knew what to expect and was promptly able to correct the issue. Carefully picking his way through the field, quickly Dempsey found himself in second and in battle for the race lead. In the end, Jordan completed the race in P2 overall, a slender three tenths of a second behind the eventual winner.

Jordan Dempsey – #3 Pinnacle Motorsport F4:

“Lots learned this weekend. It was my first time at a street track and I was building up to it all weekend. Race one was a disaster as I didn’t drive with the championship in mind and paid the price! Race two and three I used what I learned in the first race and drove really well even with a injured finger. The car was really good as always so thanks to Pinnacle Motorsport. Also thanks to Digital Planet, Motorsport Ireland, Sport Ireland and to my family for always supporting me 100%.”
