Yamaha has announced it will not replace the injured Valentino Rossi for this weekend’s Misano MotoGP race.

Rossi has been ruled out of MotoGP action for at least a month after the Italian broke his leg in a motocross crash last week, putting him out of Misano and the following Aragon round in two weeks.

But, instead of fielding a replacement for the 38-year-old, Yamaha has confirmed it will run a sole factory bike for Maverick Vinales this weekend.

It remains to be seen whether Yamaha will replace Rossi for Aragon, should the seven-time premier class champion remain unfit for the Spanish race as expected.

Valentino Rossi will be missed at home MotoGP

Yamaha test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga, a veteran of seven MotoGP races since 2011, would be available to race alongside Vinales as there is no clashing All-Japan Superbike race that weekend.

The 36-year-old could not be present at Misano as he will be competing at Autopolis instead.
