Dublins Conor Farrell is Motorsport Ireland young racing driver of the month for May

21 year-old Conor Farrell from Blackrock, Co Dublin, has been selected as the Young Racing Driver of the Month for May. Conor’s performances during the month included a win and two second places in the Global Lights races at Bishopscourt, followed two weeks later by two victories and two third positions at Pembrey, in South Wales.

Conor began motor racing in 2013 at the age of 17, driving in the newly introduced Ford Fiesta Zetec series at Mondello Park. Following a break, he returned to racing last year in Global Lights, scoring several podium placings, including his first win, at Anglesey. In 2017, he has developed into one of the pace setters in the class, and is locked in a duel for top place in the points table, finishing in the top three in every race this year.

Conor is in the third year of his apprenticeship as an Aircraft Technician in the Irish Air Corps. His sponsors are Salamander Amphibious Vehicles and Viking Splash Tours.

He intends to complete this year’s Global Lights Championship and must be one of the strongest challengers to take the title at the end of the season, with races still to come at Anglesey and Oulton Park.

Having been selected as the second Driver of the Month for the 2017 season, Conor is now a contender for the prestigious Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy. This award is presented annually and is supported by Sport Ireland (formerly the Irish Sports Council) and Motorsport Ireland.
