The Irish Formula Vee Association bring their annual celebration of budget single seater racing, the Formula Vee Festival to Mondello Park this weekend, July 8th & 9th. The County Kildare Motor Club will run a two day programme of racing which includes two Formula Vee Championship races on Saturday and the three Formula Vee Festival races on Sunday.

Once again the Vee festival will be run in aid of charity with LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s hospice, as its beneficiary. This will be the fifth year in which the festival has supported LauraLynn and so far the event has raised over €55,000 for the charity. Visitors to Mondello Park over the two days will be able to contribute to this worthy cause through purchase of an event programme, donating directly to LauraLynn or by taking part in the Saturday evening Barbecue and Auction in the Mondello Park Bar.

On track the action will get underway on Saturday afternoon with the E. Fox Engineers Formula Vee Championship qualifying race. The qualifier will decide a large portion of the grid for the last race of the day the Formula Vee final. In between, the programme will be made up of the first of two races for the Mondello Park Fiesta Zetec Championship, Irish Touring Car Championship, BOSS Ireland, Formula Sheane and Future Classics along with a single race for HRCA Pre ’55 Cars.

Following Saturday Nights Auction and Barbecue, Sunday’s main race day will begin with the opening Vee Festival Heat, the grid for which will be decided by a lottery. A second festival heat will see the initial grid reversed with the results of the two races combined to set the grid for the Final, which will be the last race of the day.

Along with the second race for the classes which raced on Saturday, the packed Sunday programme will see the addition of double headers for the Seat Supercup and ASK Supercars, Strykers, Ginetta Juniors and the Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta ST Championship. In between the races the final charity event of the weekend will take place at lunch time on the main straight. The ‘Fiesta Push’ race will see a number of teams go head to head in one of the most competitive races of the season as they push Fiesta Zetec race cars from Southside corner to the start finish line.
