Monica Kaltenborn joined Sauber in 2000 as head of its legal department, taking over as CEO in January 2010.As Longbow Finance acquired the company in 2016, founder Peter Sauber stepped aside, while Kaltenborn retained her position but relinquishing her shares. The Swiss F1 team still has to confirm the split.

Kaltenborn has been at odds with the new owners on the management of the team.

Sources have suggested one of the issues was the treatment of the outfit’s drivers Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein.

It is understood the owners want to give ‘team orders’ priority to Ericsson over Wehrlein, but Kaltenborn was not in favour of such a policy.

Following lengthy discussions, the two parties decided they could not find a way forward to work together and chose to part ways.

It is widely understood that former HRT team principal Colin Kolles is a candidate to replace Kaltenborn.
