Mondello Park Prepares For Racing Return With Unique Test Weekend

Like all other sports venues Mondello Park has been closed since March due to government restrictions in place to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. With Irish motorsport’s governing body, Motorsport Ireland, also having cancelled all Motorsport events until July 20th at the earliest, the Irish Motorsport season has not seen any action so far this year.

As the government restrictions are now being eased, circuit racing is almost ready to make its return, albeit behind closed doors, and Mondello Park is currently planning a reduced season of Car, Rallycross and Rallysprint events. As part of this gradual return to action the Kildare circuit can now offer an opportunity for Circuit Racers, Rally Competitors and Hillclimb participants to get in some much needed mileage before the season finally gets underway.

A two day test weekend, the first of its kind at the venue, will take place over the weekend of July 4th and 5th offering drivers extended track time at a competitive rate. Saturday July 4th will be for Saloon and Sports Cars only and the day will cater for closed wheel cars from all forms of motorsport including Circuit Racing, Rallying, Rallycross and Hillclimbs. Sunday’s sessions will be for open wheel cars with all classes of single seater welcome.

On both days numbers will be restricted and sessions will be split by lap times to keep cars of similar speed together. With the reduced numbers and less need to segregate different classes of car, track time per driver will be maximised, thereby offering extremely cost effective testing mileage.

Drivers can book their space on the July 4th and 5th test weekend by contacting Mondello Park on 045-860200 or info@mondellopark.ie. A full days testing on either Saturday or Sunday will cost €200 with half day spaces available for €100.
