Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy Development Day

The Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, which is supporting all nominees from the 2018 Billy Coleman Award process, ran their third development day yesterday in Pallas, Tynagh, Co. Galway. Following on from two very successful development day’s on both tar and gravel earlier in the year, yesterday’s event focused on tarmac driving and saw the Academy members take to the track in a Hyundai i20 R5 thanks to Philip Case Rallysport.

For the first time, drivers got the chance to experience Sim racing thanks to Virtual Race Academy, Sim (simulated) racing is the collective term for computer software that attempts to accurately simulate driving and complete with real-world variables such as tire wear and grip, fuel usage, damage, and suspension settings.

As well as getting to grips with the Virtual car and the i20 R5 on the track, the drivers continued to receive guidance in pacenotes, performance coaching, mental fitness, personal fitness, nutrition and media training. The Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy is funded by former Irish Rally Champion John Coyne, through the Team Ireland Foundation.
