Car Race Season Closes With Annual Leinster Trophy Race

The domestic Car Race season is set for an exciting climax this Saturday and Sunday, September 14th and 15th, as Mondello Park hosts two days of championship action centring around Sunday’s headline ‘Leinster Trophy’ race for Formula BOSS Ireland cars. The Leinster Trophy will also go digital for the first time this weekend as the first Eports virtual Leinster Trophy sim race will run before the main event at Sunday lunch time.

Ireland’s biggest annual car race event will see the Leinster Motor Club put on a busy twenty one race programme over the two days with the feature event scheduled for 15:15 on Sunday afternoon. This Weekend competitors will have their first and only chance of the year to sample the full Mondello Park International Track and this layout is particularly suited to the super quick Big Open Single Seaters of the Formula BOSS Championship as well as providing some great places to watch these cars in full flight.

The BOSS races will be contested by an exciting mixture of machinery including Formula 3, Formula 3000 and Formula Renault cars as well as the lone Dallara World Series car of Paul O’Connell, which is one of the fastest cars ever to contest the championship. The field of twenty BOSS drivers will race on both days with a championship encounter on Saturday and the centrepiece ‘Leinster Trophy’ race on Sunday.

Making their now annual Leinster Trophy appearance will be Paul Dagg and Stephen Daly with their Formula 3 machines. Both drivers are previous winners of the Leinster Trophy and will be eager to get their hands on it once again. Looking to stop them will be the aforementioned O’Connell with his Dallara, the giant killing Formula Renault of Barry Rabbitt and the remaining Formula 3 entries which include Fergus Faherty, Sylvie Mullins and UK visitor Kevan McLurg.

Prior to the real-world race, the Esport Leinster Trophy will be live on screen in the Mondello Park bar as well as on facebook and YouTube. Organised by the Virtual Race Academy (VRA) which is based at Mondello Park, the race will be contested by famous names from the racing world, world champion sim racers, local VRA regulars and racers who have booked their spot by taking part in the qualifying competition currently running on For details of the race and what is required to take part see

Alongside the feature race Sunday’s programme will include a double header for the closely contested Keelan Construction Fiesta Zetec and Dennings Cars Fiesta ST Championships, as well as a Future Classics double header. Formula Vee, Strykers and a packed grid of Closed Wheel Libre cars made up of GT’S, Seat Supercup, ASK Supercar and Irish Touring Car Championship machines will race once on both days, with Ginetta Juniors, Formula Sheane and HRCA Historics joining in the action on Saturday only.
