Alex Dunne To Contest FIA Karting European Championship Next Week – 20th To 22nd April.

Dublin based Alex Dunne, 12 years of age, already with vast national and international junior karting experience will explode into Europe to compete in the 2018 OK Junior FIA Karting European Championship next week, 20th to 22nd April.  This see’s Alex step up to a new class this season and has already adapted well to the new chassis.  The European event will be the most competitive discipline the youngster will have competed in and he relishes the proposition.

This competition is the pinnacle for the best competitors from around the world to showcase their talent. This year, the CIK-FIA European Championships for the OK and OK-Junior categories are organised over four events from April to August, in Italy, Great Britain, Germany and France. The first meeting shows the popularity of the series already with 85 entered in OK and 82 in OK-Junior, growth of more than 15% compared to 2017. Thirty-six nationalities will be represented, with strong Italian participation, 27 drivers, ahead of Great Britain and Spain, with 16 drivers each, then France and Finland, 13 drivers each, Germany and Russia, 10 drivers each and lest we forget, a young Irish warrior flying the flag for Ireland, Alex Dunne ☘️.

 

The Italian Kart Grand Prix will launch the FIA Karting European Championship, for the OK and OK- Junior categories at the Sarno circuit Italy.  The event has an entry higher than last year and constant confrontation is expected between the established stars and young hopefuls of the discipline.

 

Alex, who’s training program has been intensive leading up to this prestigious competition has included testing completed in South Garda Karting (Lonato, Italy) and at PFI International (UK).  Alex has already shown exceptional pace in this new class and his sights are set firmly on winning.  Running with Forza Racing, who are the current team champions at European and World level, all the preparation boxes have been ticked.  Now it’s time to compete on a world stage.

About Alex Dunne:

2014:

Alex started his karting career competing at the Irish Kart clubs where he achieved multiple club level wins.

2015:

Competing in the Motorsport Ireland & N.I. karting championships. Alex claimed the Motorsport Ireland IRL Plate 1stand Motorsport Ireland O Plate 1st, together with the Northern Ireland karting Ironside trophy in only his second year.

2016:

Competed in the UK SuperOne & LGM Premier league karting events. Alex claimed fastest laps and front row starts throughout the season. Dunne also competed in four rounds of the Motorsport Ireland karting championship where he achieved 1st place in all rounds entered and added a second 1st ‘0’ plate, making it two years in a row.

2017:

Competed in all rounds of SuperOne & LGM Series. Results include: Fastest laps, pole positions and wins.
