Photos: Shane Murphy Takes His First Win In The Seat Supercup Ireland Series At Mondello Park

The Seat Supercup Ireland held their final two rounds of the championship in Mondello Park at the Leinster Trophy event last weekend.  The championship had already been won by Rod McGovern, however there was personal pride at stake, as close racing got underway.

Erik Holstein, having qualified on pole position by less than 2/10’s of a second from newcomer Shane Murphy knew he had a battle on his hands.  Returning from racing in the 24H Series in Portugal last month, Holstein set his sites back on winning race 1 in the domestic series.  The race (Saturday 16/09/17) was wet and was a challenge for the drivers on this 2.934 km circuit.  Holstein, the  2016 champion went on to win (car no.1) from Rod McGovern (no.8) and Sam Mansfield (no. 17).

Race 2 in a contrast from the previous inclement conditions, took place in perfect conditions for the 2.0L turbo charged 300bhp machines.  Shane Murphy, a newcomer and series Rookie started on a reverse grid pole position.  Murphy, from Cork had a great start and led the race from lights out to chequered flag, absorbing all the pressure that Erik Holstein could throw at him.  Also World Champion hot rod racer now took his first race win in this highly competitive class.  Holstein came a close 2nd with 2017 Champion Rod McGovern in 3rd in the Mick Merrigan prepared racing car.
