Irish racing driver Matt Griffin, has arrived in America for the 6th round of the FIA World Endurance Championship taking place at Circuit of Americas, Austin, Texas this coming weekend.

Just two weeks after racing the in Mexico City, Griffin returns to the west with teammates Mok Weng Sun and Kieta Sawa in their number 61 Clearwater Racing, Ferrari 488 GTe competing in LMGTE AM.  Having only ever raced at Circuit of Americas once, back in 2013, Griffin is looking forward to getting more experience of the track.

“I am really looking forward to this weekend. The COTA track is one of the best circuits on the calendar and Austin itself is a fantastic place. Its going to be a tough race because as always the competition from Aston Martin, Porsche and the other Ferrari 488 entered by Spirit of Race will be fierce and as with all the other 6h races, it will be a new track for my teammates, in saying that I am confident and the aim will be to stand on the podium.” Griffin explained.

Round 5 in Mexico City did not go to plan, the trio finished 5th in GTE AM after picking up some damage early in the race that hampered their performance and consequently loosing their championship lead.  The teammates now sit 2nd in the GTE AM championship with 4 rounds to go.

Matt continues “ Mexico city was not ideal for sure, it was just one of those races where everything went wrong, unfortunately Weng sustained some damage within the first thirty minutes of the race and this hampered the speed of the car for the duration of the race making it really tough to be competitive.  We were fortunate enough to still score points so we are definitely still in this championship fight.”

The weekend kicks off with two free practice session on Thursday 14th September 2017; Friday sees another free practice session along with qualifying at 15.05 local time.  The 6-hour race will begin at 12pm on Saturday 16th September 2017.

Motorsport TV will be covering the race live at 17.45 GMT, radio coverage of the race can be found at www.radiolemans.co.  More information can be found at www.fiawec.com.
